With the support of the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) and the coordination of the Cyprus Computer Society (CCS), two student robotics teams from FLL Cyprus proudly represented Cyprus at top-tier international FIRST® LEGO® League events, aligned with this season’s theme of Ocean Exploration!
ROBOTHEADZ – International Participation in the FIRST® Championship in Texas, USA
The ROBOTHEADZ team, guided by Dr. Pericles Cheng of STEM Education Cyprus, secured 1st place and the Champion's Award at the FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge Cyprus 2025. As the winning team, they traveled to Houston, USA, to participate in the international FIRST® Championship, held from April 16 to 19, 2025.Ten students aged 12–16 took part in the mission: Alexandros Grigorieff, Giorgos Ioulianou, Ioannis Ioannou, Kourken Torossian, Konstantinos Neophytou, Panagiotis Ioulianou, Sofia Papadopoulou, Stefanos Metaxas, Ariadni Tsapsidou, and Vasiliki Papadopoulou, accompanied by their coach and families.
This flagship FIRST® event brought together over 50,000 participants from 160 countries, promoting collaboration, innovation, and global exchange of ideas. The Cypriot robotics team designed and programmed a robot to complete missions on the Robot Game field and presented the Innovation Project: a diving mask equipped with artificial intelligence that identifies fish species in real time, aiming to detect potentially dangerous marine life invading wetlands. ROBOTHEADZ ranked among the top 100 teams worldwide within the FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge event, out of 160 teams and nearly 2,000 participants in that specific competition.
