WRO Cyprus was organised by the Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, in collaboration with STEM Education Hellas and IET Cyprus. The event was supported by XM as Tech Partner and hosted by European University Cyprus.

The competition is open to primary, secondary and high school students, who are challenged to design, build and program robots to tackle the challenges of their respective competition field, according to their age category and the annual theme of the World Robot Olympiad.

The theme of World Robot Olympiad 2026, “Robots Meet Culture,” brought robotics closer to art and cultural heritage. Teams were invited to explore how robots can contribute to the creation, preservation and promotion of art and culture in the modern era. From ancient murals to contemporary digital art, and from fashion to architecture, human creativity tells stories, preserves traditions and inspires innovation.

With the support of the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), the winning teams will have the opportunity to represent Cyprus at two major international World Robot Olympiad events abroad.

The teams travelling this year to represent Cyprus at WRO are as follows:

  • WRO® Open Championship Europe 2026, Zagreb, Croatia, 13–16 October 2026.

The teams Robobrains, The Puzzlers and The Spedz, competing in the Elementary, Junior and Senior categories, respectively, from The STEM Education Cyprus, with coach Periklis Cheng, as well as Dream Team (Elementary) from AP Robotics, with coach Antonis Foinikaridis.

  • World Robot Olympiad™ International Final 2026, Puerto Rico, 8–10 December 2026.

The teams Nerobot Lab (Senior – High School), V.A.C. Lab (Junior – Middle School) and Medi Lab (Elementary – Primary School) from E.P. Robotics Lab, with coach Stavria Angeli.

The Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) warmly congratulates all the students who took part in this year’s competition and wishes every success to the teams that will represent Cyprus in Europe and the Americas.

All students are encouraged to continue participating in STEM and robotics competitions, developing their creativity, collaboration and innovation skills. For more news and information about upcoming computer science and robotics competitions, visit the CCS website at www.ccs.org.cy.
