The national teams have just returned from their international missions, and the Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) is delighted to announce the international achievements of our students, just a few days before Cyprus hosts the Balkan Olympiad in Informatics for Juniors (JBOI).

1. International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), July 27 – August 3, Sucre, Bolivia: 2 Bronze Medals
With an outstanding performance, the Cypriot delegation returned from the IOI. Two bronze medals were awarded to Mariza Paspalli and Theofanis Orfanou, while Andreas Knai and Andreas Constantinou competed strongly with excellent results. The team was accompanied by Dimitris Chrysostomou (Deputy Leader) and Dimitris Livadiotis (Leader). 

2. European Junior Olympiad in Informatics (EJOI), August 29 – September 4, Shumen, Bulgaria: 1 Silver Medal
The team secured a Silver medal with Mariza Paspalli, while Alexis Tsangaris, Andreas Tziapouras, and Andreas Charalambides also delivered excellent performances. Team leaders were Fr. Antonios Georgiou and Andreas Knai.

3. Balkan Olympiad in Informatics (BOI), September 25 – October 1, Udine, Italy: 1 Silver Medal & 1 Honorable Mention
The Cypriot delegation achieved a Silver medal with Mariza Paspalli and an Honorable Mention for Andreas Constantinou. Alexis Tsangaris and Konstantinos Maniatis also competed strongly. The delegation was led by Fr. Antonios Georgiou and Akis Sykopetritis.

4. European Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI), July 14–20, Bonn, Germany: 1 Gold Medal
In a historic achievement, Mariza Paspalli won a Gold medal. Also performing excellently were Selina Arkatiti, Marina Georgiou, and Elisavet Dimopoulou. Team leaders were Chara Skouteli and Sotiroula Yiasoumi.

 

Next Stop: Cyprus Hosts the JBOI 2025

Cyprus will have the honor of hosting, for the first time, the Balkan Olympiad in Informatics for Juniors (JBOI 2025). The competition will take place from October 24 to 30, 2025, at the “Tassos Mitsopoulos” Lyceum in Aradippou, under the sponsorship and support of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth of the Republic of Cyprus, under whose auspices the event will be held.

The CCS congratulates all the students and their teachers for their outstanding performance in the recent competitions. We wish the best of success both to the student team that will participate in the JBOI 2025 competition, as well as to the team of educators who will actively contribute to its organization.

 

Opportunities for the Current Academic Year

Meanwhile, the free programming preparation courses for the Cyprus Informatics Olympiad have already begun. The lessons are offered free of charge for secondary school students, on a weekly basis in every district. The First Round of the Cyprus Olympiad in Informatics for the 2025–26 school year will be announced soon.

The Cyprus Olympiad in Informatics is organized annually by the CCS in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth. The competition is powered by ECOMMBX and supported by XM, Oracle Academy, and ICDL.
