The Council of European Professional Informatics Societies (CEPIS), together with the Cyprus Computer Society (CCS), hosted the latest Council and expert group meetings from November 20 to 22, 2024 at the Golden Bay Hotel in Larnaca, Cyprus. CEPIS members from 22 countries gathered for a series of productive in-person/hybrid sessions, exchanging insights and strategies to advance digital skills and professionalism across Europe. The topics in focus included digital skills policies, informatics in education, women in tech, cybersecurity, research and innovation, different aspects of the Information Society, and, of course, IT professionalism. Two initiatives particularly highlighted were the DiversIT Charter and the IT Professionalism Europe (ITPE) network. In addition, CEPIS issued a call for all groups and member societies to complete and share with their networks a survey on Ethical AI.
The Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) played a prominent role, showcasing its initiatives during the Council meeting. CCS also hosted an evening of traditional Cypriot cuisine at Lysia Restaurant on November 21, offering attendees a taste of the local culture and an opportunity to network in a relaxed setting.
Participants expressed enthusiasm for the outcomes of the meetings, highlighting their productivity and the value of in-person collaboration after a period dominated by virtual events. The combination of engaging discussions, cultural immersion, and strong international representation underscored the success of the gathering.
On 22 November, CEPIS and CCS representatives also met with several Cypriot universities to discuss potential collaboration in the topic of women and girls in ICT.
CEPIS continues to strengthen its role as a unifying force in the European IT landscape, fostering collaboration and innovation among its member societies.
