Expertise
What is your role, job title, and field of expertise?

I am Maria Mousikou Iand  am a software developer with a background in Computer Science and a Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, and I am currently pursuing an MBA. My professional experience has given me the opportunity to work on different stages of software development — from requirements analysis and discussions with business teams to implementation and delivery.

Inspiration
What sparked your interest in this technology field and what path led you here?

From a young age, I was fascinated by technology and how things work behind the screen. I loved creating and developing simple websites, and that curiosity led me to study Computer Science. During my studies, I realized how powerful technology can be in solving real-world problems, and later, my Master’s in Cybersecurity helped me understand how essential it is to make digital systems safe and trustworthy. My path has been shaped by a constant desire to learn, create, and improve — values that continue to guide my career every day.

Career Growth
What skills and strategies have helped you succeed in tech?

What has helped me the most is having an analytical mindset and an open approach to problem-solving. I always try to understand the bigger picture — not just the code, but also the business needs and user experience behind each project. Continuous learning is also key: I stay updated with new technologies, frameworks, and best practices through reading, training, and hands-on experimentation. Equally important are communication and teamwork — being able to collaborate effectively with colleagues and business stakeholders ensures that we create solutions that truly make a difference.

Memorable Achievements
Share a project or moment that reflects the impact of your work.

A project that truly stands out for me is my work on the GESY – General Healthcare System. I was part of the team that developed the web interface used by both doctors and patients to manage their profiles and health information. It was a challenging but rewarding experience that combined technical precision with real social impact. Knowing that my work contributes to improving healthcare services and user experience for thousands of people in Cyprus is something I am very proud of.

Challenges
How do you stay ahead in a competitive field, and what obstacles have you overcome?

Technology evolves quickly, so staying ahead means being adaptable and curious. I dedicate time to learning about emerging tools, frameworks, and cybersecurity trends, and I always try to apply that knowledge in real projects. One of the biggest challenges has been keeping up with the constant pace of change. At first, it was overwhelming to see how fast everything moves in IT, but I learned to focus on mastering the fundamentals while maintaining a mindset of lifelong learning. This balance helps me stay confident and innovative in an ever-changing environment.

Work-Life Balance
How do you manage the demands of career and personal life?

Managing the demands of my career and personal life is very important to me. I try to maintain a healthy balance by organizing my time effectively and setting clear priorities. Outside of work, I enjoy activities that help me relax and express myself creatively, such as dancing, going to the gym, and doing pottery. These hobbies allow me to stay active, relieve stress, and maintain a positive mindset. I believe that nurturing both professional growth and personal well-being leads to long-term success and fulfilment.

Personal motive
What’s your personal motto, or favourite motivational quote, that can also inspire the younger generation to follow studies and a career in an ICT field?

My personal motto is “Coding is about creating”

I find great joy in transforming an idea into reality through technology. I encourage young people — especially women — to study Computer Science and pursue careers in ICT. This field offers endless opportunities, and everyone can find a path that matches their interests and strengths. With curiosity, creativity, and perseverance, anyone can help shape the future through technology.

Future
How do you envision the future of technology and what role can gender diversity and inclusion play?

I see the future of technology as more intelligent, connected, and secure — where innovation and ethics go hand in hand. The growing number of women choosing careers in ICT is a very positive sign. Gender diversity brings new ideas, perspectives, and creativity to the industry, which leads to better and more inclusive solutions. It’s inspiring to see more women in leadership positions and technology roles, and I believe that through education, mentorship, and equal opportunities, we can build a more balanced and innovative digital future.
